Paul was born in 1969 in the old hospital in Fitzroy Crossing. He is one of five children of Archie Doherty and Doris Cox (dec). Paul married Frances Dawson in 1990, Frances is also an artist and they have six children and seven grandchildren. He grew up travelling from station to station all over the East Kimberley experiencing station life. When he was older, his parents settled in Yiyili fulltime. Paul then attend Yiyili School in the days where it was held down at the Mary River. He has had lots of experience working for mining companies and Aboriginal Corporations. Paul started painting for Laarri Gallery in 2008 and likes to use both acrylic and ochre and paints about bush tuckers and the dreamtime.
